WHEN TO VISIT
Dominica isn't just a winter sunshine destination. In fact, you'll probably get some refreshing rain during your visit. (January, February, and March are the drier months.) Ramelton is comfy any time.
If you're looking for public activity during your stay at Ramelton, here are some festivals that provide it.
Carnival, or Mas Domnik, builds to a festive frenzy in the weeks before Lent every year, usually in February or March. Calypso competitions, Queen shows, street jump-ups in colourful costumes—it's when Dominicans come alive in public. http://www.dominica.dm/site/carnival.cfm
July is the month for Dive Fest. The Dominica Watersports Association has the info: http://dominicawatersports.com/
In September or October the village of Layou hosts the Titiwi Fest. Named after a small fish whose season peaks at that time, the festival features plenty of ways to eat it, with drinks, games, and music.
October into November is the time for the extravaganza of the year, the World Creole Music Festival. Check it out here: http://www.wcmfdominica.com/
The Dominica Festival of Arts (DOMFESTA) runs from April to June, showcasing theatrical and dance performances, concerts, and artistic workshops.
Throughout the year, villages commemorate their patron saints by holding feasts, complete with community shows and competitions. The most popular are Fete Isidore held in Grand Bay and San Sauveur in June and St. Peter's Feast organized by villages along the island's west coast in June and July.
