Amenities at Ramelton/Tips for your holiday

Ensuite bathrooms for all bedrooms, with good lighting and great showers.

Phone: It allows incoming calls from anywhere but only local outgoing calls, so if you want to call the outside world, bring your mobile.  Mountain conditions sometimes make the landline take unexpected service breaks.

Internet connection:  Hook up to our high speed modem and as long as the phone line cooperates, you're connected. Ask Mr. Knight for details.

All linens supplied. Cotton sheets and bedspreads—no synthetics.

Washer, dryer, and clothesline.

Staff:

The maid comes two days a week from 8:00 to 2:00 to do the laundry, dishes and all the usual tidying. Although she doesn't actually cook for you, she is glad to help with food preparation. If you want to sleep late, that's fine; just specify what time you want her to arrive.

On site caretakers:  Based in their own cottage, these two alert and practical Caribs look after the grounds, light the fire in the evening, share local knowledge about Dominica, and are generally helpful about anything. They are very sensitive to whether you want looking after or being left alone.

Electricity: voltage is 220. For your convenience, a converter (to 110) and plug adaptor are supplied.

A well-appointed kitchen enables you to enjoy turning your market discoveries into great meals. There is also a barbecue grill. As you would expect from the nature island of the Caribbean, there are fresh fruits and vegetables that are rare treats up north. See food.

Arrival provisions. You are encouraged to email our property manager, Alvin Knight, (apexserv@cwdom.dm) with a list of food and drink that you would like stocked for your arrival. This allows you to settle in without first having to go to the supermarket.

Airport or ferry pickup. Contact our recommended driver, Daniel Didier at 767-245-3706, to be collected and taken to Ramelton. He's really the best. You may want to hire him for other excursions, so you can sit back and look at the scenery instead of the road.

rental car can be delivered directly to Ramelton. Visitor's driving licenses are available at the airport from the immigration officer who checks you in. You will need to present a valid license from just about anywhere to get your visitors driving permit.   Note that if you are under 25 or over 65, they won't give you a visitor's driving license.

Bathing au naturel in the little waterfall pool. It's a hike back up, but the trail is good and the effort is worth it.

Ramelton's rustic experience is free from mechanical or electronic noise. No dishwasher whirring, no TV to intrude on the soothing sounds of nature. You may of course bring DVDs and a player or laptop.

The water comes directly from the rushing river and well exceeds global standards for purity.
